- Benefits of Habitat
§ Most conservation practices have positive impacts on wildlife, even when it isn't a priority. Which species benefit, and by how much, varies quite a bit depending on which practice is used and how it is installed and maintained. Simple changes to a practice, such as mowing schedule and seed mix blend, can take an area from hosting a few insect species to supporting a more diverse wildlife population. We can help farmers maximize the potential for diverse habitat within your soil and water conservation efforts. - Wildlife habitat initiative Program:
§ If increasing wildlife habitat on your property is the top priority you may be a good candidate for the Wildlife Habitat Initiative. The program is offered to all landowners that have a have a current farm record and farm number with the FSA and are eligible for USDA farm programs. The WHI focuses on creating and improving grassland habitat by offering financial assistance to offset the expenses of installing habitat practices. The funding is provided by the USDA NRCS, and technical assistance is through ODNR. If you would like to sign for the WHI, we can get you started on planning and beginning the application process. - Habitat development and Management:
