  • H2Ohio is committed to reducing nutrient runoff and improving water quality through a variety of best management practices and programs.
  • As a result of intensive scientific and economic studies, H2Ohio identified effective and cost-efficient conservation practices that have been proven to reduce agricultural phosphorus runoff. H2Ohio supports farming efforts to reduce nutrient runoff from commercial fertilizer and manure to help prevent harmful algal blooms.
  • Beyond farming, H2Ohio also works to reduce runoff and improve Ohio’s landscape by restoring and improving wetlands. Wetlands act as a natural filtration system, to trap, filter, and remove excess nutrients; a natural and cost-effective infrastructure to prevent the growth of harmful algal blooms. Forested streambeds act as buffers to absorb sediment, nutrients, and other materials.
  • These combined efforts contribute to better nutrient management and help ensure cleaner, healthier water for all Ohioans.
